A photo story looking back at my trip along the Romantische Straße from Schwangau to Würzburg and then down to München. Two days after Christmas 2015, we travelled from Milan, through Switzerland and Austria, arriving in Füssen that evening. Early the next morning, we set off to Schloß Neuschwanstein, known by many as the ‘Disney castle’ which it inspired.
We kept a leisurely pace along the Romantische Straße, taking three days to travel the 350 km length, before driving down to München in time for the New Year celebrations.
As this was part of a longer trip, not wanting to check baggage for the flight, I opted to leave my camera at home to make space in my less-than-generously sized carry-on wheelie bag. I thought it would be a good opportunity to test out the then cutting edge (for a smartphone) camera of the iPhone 6s Plus.
Just over five years on, I find the photo quality has held up well—with minimal processing compared to current smartphones, there is a certain softness and natural feel to the photos which suited the scenery perfectly.
